Faculty Support Hub
Regardless of one's level of competence in a particular area, there is always something more to learn in life. Consequently, we at TLIS subscribe to lifelong learning, and strive to push the boundaries of innovation and creativity by being a bridge to information, learning, and training opportunities.
Instructional Design Support
Apart from providing access to learning technologies and the requisite training to adopt such, faculty can also receive instructional design support and guidance regarding eCourse design, development, and delivery.
Implementing Instructional Design at UTT
The scope and ability of TLIS to provide one-to-one instructional design (ID) support to faculty across the University is constrained given the small size of the ID arm at TLIS.
Consequently, a range of strategies are employed by TLIS, to enable faculty to utilize a “GPS” – Guided Professional Support (pun intended) approach to instructional design: “We guide, while you drive”. In other words, faculty, through the provision of relevant guidance and support from instructional designers, will be empowered to engage in the ID process themselves.
Defining eCourses
Generally speaking, an eCourse is an electronic/internet-based course. Across the terrain, an eCourse is synonymously called an online course, eLearning course, or an internet-based course. Regardless of the myriad of terms, they all reflect a course that is delivered via the computer as the “vehicle”, with the internet as the information “highway” of access. Consequently, at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), the term eCourse will be utilized broadly to identify any course that has to be accessed via the internet. Nonetheless, the development of an eCourse allows facilitators to choose one of three possible instructional delivery approaches:
- Web-enhanced Course Delivery
- Flipped/Blended Course Delivery
- Online Course Delivery
